The Trustees are delighted with the unusual fundraising and awareness raising initiative taken by one of our sponsors, Naomi Brightwell. She has created the BIG KNOT. In her words:
“We are a small primary school in Camden, Emmanuel Church of England School, and are about to set a new Guinness World Record in Regents Park – The Big Knot – on September 30th, 12.30 pm, by tying school jumpers together hoping to form the world’s biggest chain of school jumpers, symbolising strength through education.
The event will raise money both for our school and to support a charity (Zoë Sarojini Education Trust, www.wordpress-455395-2711966.cloudwaysapps.com) that educates impoverished, often orphaned, girls in Natal province of South Africa. A mother from our primary school in West Hampstead set up the charity, which is run on a purely voluntary basis so the money raised will go directly to the children’s education or fund the basic subsistence to facilitate their attendance at school.
Each summer we hope to break our own record by involving more and more schools.
This year, there will be approximately 300 children forming a chain of 500 jumpers. Each participating child will get their own entry sponsored by friends and families and we also have the support from some local businesses.”
We have been in touch with Zisize to ask how they can best use the money raised, which we anticipate to be at least £1,000. And it will go to much needed sports equipment and equipment for the new homework club at Zisize’s children’s home, which is home to 4 of our sponsored kids.
We will post again with the results…….
